Mizoram Public Service Commission (MPSC) selection process for the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE).
The exam follows a multi-stage process designed to test a candidate’s general awareness, specialized knowledge, and personal suitability for administrative roles in Mizoram.

Stage I: Preliminary Examination
The Prelims consist of two papers, both objective and carrying 200 marks each.
- Paper I (General Studies): Covers History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science, and Environment.
- Paper II (Aptitude Test): Tests reasoning, mental ability, basic numeracy, and English comprehension.
- Qualifying Rule: Paper II is usually qualifying (typically requiring 33%), while Paper I determines the cut-off for the Mains. There is a negative marking of $1/3$ for every wrong answer.
Stage II: Main Examination
The Mains stage is the most rigorous part of the process, featuring eight papers that are mostly descriptive in nature.
- General English (300 Marks): Qualifying paper (marks not added to merit).
- Essay (250 Marks): Candidates write on specific topics to show clarity and logic.
- General Studies I-IV (250 Marks each): Covering the broad syllabus seen in previous images (History, Polity, Economy, Ethics, etc.).
- Optional Subject (Two Papers – 250 Marks each): Candidates choose one subject from a list (e.g., Sociology, Geography, Agriculture) and take two specialized papers.
Stage III: Interview / Personality Test
Candidates who clear the Mains written exam are called for the interview ($275$ marks). The panel assesses:
- Mental Calibre: Alertness, logic, and leadership qualities.
- Integrity: Moral and intellectual honesty.
- Contextual Knowledge: Understanding of Mizo culture, traditions, and current state affairs.

1. Paper II: Aptitude Test (CSAT) Details
While Paper I tests your knowledge, Paper II tests your skills. This paper is often qualifying (you need a minimum of 33% to pass), but your score in Paper I determines your ranking for the Mains.
The Syllabus for Paper II includes:
- Comprehension: English language comprehension skills (Class X level).
- Interpersonal Skills: Including communication skills.
- Logical Reasoning: Analytical ability and logical reasoning.
- Decision Making: Problem-solving and situational judgment.
- Basic Numeracy: Numbers, relations, and orders of magnitude (Class X level).
- Data Interpretation: Charts, graphs, and tables (Class X level).
2. The “Negative Marking” Trap
Mizoram PSC is strict about guessing. For both Paper I and Paper II:
- Penalty: There is a 1/3rd (0.66 marks) deduction for every wrong answer.
- Strategy: If you aren’t at least 50% sure about an answer, it is often safer to leave it blank, as there is no penalty for unattempted questions.
3. Important Syllabus Additions
In recent notifications (including the 2025/2026 updates), Paper I also places a heavy emphasis on Mizo Society:
- Mizo Culture & Heritage: You must study the history, traditional practices, and freedom fighters specific to Mizoram.
- Local Current Affairs: Don’t just focus on national news; the Commission frequently asks about state-level policies and developments.

MPSC Mizoram Mains Syllabus

- Paper II (General Essay): Candidates write on multiple topics; scored on orderly ideas, conciseness, and exact expression.
- General Studies (I–IV): General awareness questions testing basic understanding and analysis of socio-economic goals.
- GS I: Indian Heritage/Culture, Mizo heritage, World History (18th century onwards), Indian Society, and World Physical Geography.
- GS II: Indian Constitution, Governance, Social Justice, International Relations, and Mizoram politics since 1947.
- GS III: Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management.
- GS IV: Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude (including emotional intelligence and case studies).
